HOW IT HAPPENED:
- First Quarter | The Fighting Knights started off strong on the hardwood, as senior forward Nina Guillaume scored each point in an early 7-0 run, to put Lynn on top 9-3 early in the contest. P.R. - Rio Piedras responded with a mini-run of their own, to make the score close, 9-8. Then the ladies answered with a 10-0 run to end the quarter with a 19-8 lead.
- Second Quarter | Post play became too much for the Jerezanas, when the Lynn squad outscored them in the paint, 16-4 in the quarter. With seven Fighting Knights making baskets, the ladies were rolling and converting on easy baskets, led by freshman Meagan Shanahan, who recorded six in the quarter, leading to a team-leading 16 on the night. At the half, the Blue and White had built a commanding 42-23 lead.
- Third Quarter | The ladies did not want to settle on excelling at just the offensive end, but they had a mission to shut down the opposition, and they did just that, holding them to just four points in the quarter, and outscored UPR-RP 27-4. 10 of the 11 players to record minutes, scored at least one point for the Blue and White, with Brekia Henderson and Paola Vazquez leading the way with six points apiece.
- Fourth Quarter | The Fighting Knights would coast their way to a 88-40 victory, but Shanahan wanted to help close this game out the right way, scoring six of her points in the last quarter of play.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- Shanahan led the squad in her first court appearance in the Blue and White, with 16 points (shooting 57% from the floor) to go along with three rebounds. With 16 minutes of action, Shanahan averaged a point per minute of action.
