Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lynn University baseball team claimed the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, beating Columbus State 7-6 in 10 innings before the Cougars salvaged a split with a 14-1 victory in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
- Lynn started the scoring in the first inning when Ryan Donovan drove in leadoff man John Borup from third with a fielder's choice.
- Columbus State responded with a three-run bottom half, as the first three Cougars that came to bat all crossed the plate.
- The scoreboard read zeroes until the eighth when a bases loaded triple from Tyler Curtis highlighted a five-run inning for the Fighting Knights.
- The Cougars again answered the call, scratching across a pair of runs to cut their deficit to 6-5.
- A defensive blunder allowed the home nine to not only tie the game in the ninth but force a tenth inning.
- The Fighting Knights went ahead for good in the top of the tenth before overcoming a leadoff single in the bottom half to hang on for the victory.
Game 2
- Lynn got its lone run of the game in the third inning, but Columbus State plated 11 runs in the first four innings.
- The Cougars added three scores in the bottom of the sixth to expand their comfortable lead.
STATS FROM THE GAMES:
- Five Fighting Knights recorded hits in the opener, with Curtis' triple holding up as the only one that went for extra bases.
- Frank Grandinette tossed seven frames on the mound, allowing a pair of earned runs on just one base hit while fanning eight.
- Payton Smith was the first man out of the Lynn bullpen, earning the win after two innings on the bump.
- Rigo Beltran picked up his first save in a Lynn uniform, despite allowing a hit and a walk in the tenth inning.
- Borup posted a multi-hit effort in Game 2 while providing the team's lone RBI.
- Jonathon Wake was on the wrong end of the Cougars' offensive explosion, taking his first loss after being chased in the third inning.
- Donovan Armas and Ryan Caporice combined to surrender five runs over the final 3.2 innings.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Saturday's opener marked the first game this season that the Fighting Knights have not scored by way of a home run.
- Grandinette has been the starting pitcher in both games Lynn has won to date.
