HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Through doubles play, the Fighting Knights fell behind 2-1, with both setbacks coming at the hands of nationally-ranked pairings.
  • Porfirio Ordonez and Danyang Xu picked up their team-high ninth doubles win of the season with an 8-5 decision at No. 3.
  • Mateo and Daniel Riggs took 21st-ranked Zierlyn/Becke to a tiebreaker at No. 2, but fell 9-8 (7-4). Pavel Mojha and Mehdi Laalej were unable to keep up with 13th-ranked Zmak/Couder at the top spot (8-5).
  • In a battle of ranked singles player, No. 19 Mojha dropped No. 29 Fabian Zierleyn at the second flight in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) to tie up the match.
  • The Eagles stole back the lead with a win at No. 1 from the 6th-ranked player in the country, but Laalej issued another tie with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 3.
  • After the home side took the fourth flight, the Blue & White needed the final two singles matches to stay alive, and were down a set in each.
  • At No. 5, Mateo dropped the opener 6-3, but bounced back and rattled off a pair of 6-2 set-wins to tie up Lynn and Embry-Riddle, 4-4.
  • Porfirio Ordonez didn't let a 6-1 setback in the opening set determine the final outcome as the freshman shined yet again and prevailed over Luke de Caires (1-6, 7-5, 6-1) to clinch the Blue & White victory over the Eagles.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Lynn is 4-0 this year in matches decided by one team-point.
  • Porfirio Ordonez has clinched two 5-4 wins for the Fighting Knights so far this season.
  • The Eagles' last defeat came almost two months ago on Feb. 3. Today was their first loss to a NCAA DII opponent.
