HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lynn came right at Queens immediately off the opening whistle with Jordyn Turner attempting a shot from the top of the box, which was saved by Royals keeper Rachel Quest.
  • Duerr was able to connect with Cole in the 35th minute of play to put the Blue & White ahead 1-0.  The duo combined on the goal after Duerr's pass came in from the left wing to the top of the box and Cole's shot sailed into the right side netting.
  • Alexa Downie kept Lynn in the lead just three minutes later after Charlotte Ring broke free of her defender and levied a point-blank header on frame.  Downie made a leaping save to preserve the Fighting Knights' advantage into halftime.
  • A quick evolving counter attack led to the Blue & White's second goal after Georgia Robert found Duerr racing down the right wing.  The senior forward beat her defender and split the defense with a through-ball where Cole waited and tapped in her second goal of the match.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Downie logged four saves for her fourth career clean sheet.
  • The Fighting Knights outshot the Royals 17-9 for the game while Queens held the 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Lynn started four newcomers: freshmen Nia Perkovich and Ida Langer and transfers Morgan Meltzer and Valentina Pedretti.
  • Cole logged her second career multi-goal game while Duerr notched her first career multi-assist match.
  • Duerr's two assists surpasses her total from all of last season.
  • Lynn last played Queens in 2006, defeating the Royals 1-0 in the season-opener.
  • The Fighting Knights last season-opening shutout came in 2013 against Clayton State.
