Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Two quality goals from Lynn University's top returning scorer and a solid defensive effort led to the women's soccer team knocking off Queens University 2-0 in the 2016 season-opener. Donish Cole netted a pair of scores from Caroline Duerr as the Fighting Knights improved to 21-9-1 all-time in season-openers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn came right at Queens immediately off the opening whistle with Jordyn Turner attempting a shot from the top of the box, which was saved by Royals keeper Rachel Quest.
- Duerr was able to connect with Cole in the 35th minute of play to put the Blue & White ahead 1-0. The duo combined on the goal after Duerr's pass came in from the left wing to the top of the box and Cole's shot sailed into the right side netting.
- Alexa Downie kept Lynn in the lead just three minutes later after Charlotte Ring broke free of her defender and levied a point-blank header on frame. Downie made a leaping save to preserve the Fighting Knights' advantage into halftime.
- A quick evolving counter attack led to the Blue & White's second goal after Georgia Robert found Duerr racing down the right wing. The senior forward beat her defender and split the defense with a through-ball where Cole waited and tapped in her second goal of the match.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- Downie logged four saves for her fourth career clean sheet.
- The Fighting Knights outshot the Royals 17-9 for the game while Queens held the 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Lynn started four newcomers: freshmen Nia Perkovich and Ida Langer and transfers Morgan Meltzer and Valentina Pedretti.
- Cole logged her second career multi-goal game while Duerr notched her first career multi-assist match.
- Duerr's two assists surpasses her total from all of last season.
- Lynn last played Queens in 2006, defeating the Royals 1-0 in the season-opener.
