Men's swimming competes in the Panther Invite

Melbourne, Florida – The men's swimming team traveled to Melbourne, Florida to compete against Florida Tech, Florida Southern and Rollins College in the 2021 Panther Invite.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Over the course of the three-day event, the Fighting Knights picked up four second-place finishes and two third-place finishes.
  • The Fighting Knights began the event with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Thomas Labarias, Julian Chan Quee Lin, Ethan Sido and Dalton Brown completed the race in 1:23.08. The time was just under two seconds away from being a provisional standard for the NCAA championships.
  • Josh Fountain brought home his first of two second-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle relay. His finishing time of 4:27.54 gives him the B standard very early in the season. Mohamed Masmoudi also achieved the B standard, finishing in fifth place with a time of 4:32.00.
  • Fountain's other second-place finish came in the 1650 freestyle. Once again he achieved the B standard when he completed the event in 15:38.96.
  • Chan Quee Lin took home second in the 50 free, finishing with a time of 20.67. He missed the B standard qualifying time by just .06 seconds.
  • The men's team had success throughout the event in relays. In the 800 free relay, they took home second with a time of 6:47.00. The team of Chan Quee Lin, Brown, Masmoudi and Fountain missed the provisional qualifying standard by under 11 seconds.
  • In the 400 medley relay, the Fighting Knights took fourth place with a time of 3:25.81, exactly 11 seconds faster than their seed time. 
  • Fountain and Masmoudi continued their successful meet, finishing in third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 free. Fountain's 1:39.02 and MAsmoudi's 1:39.73 were both good enough to achieve the B standard qualifying time.

NEXT MEET:
The swimmers will be back in the pool with a home meet against Florida Tech on Saturday, Dec. 18. at 11 a.m.
