Fighting Knights kick off SSC Championship Day 1; Women's 800-Yard free relay qualifies for NCAA Championship

Clearwater, Florida – Kicking off the first day of five, the Fighting Knights got started with some exciting moments. After Jeff Davenport opened up the evening by singing the National Anthem, the Fighting Knights were ready to go. In a solid start to the meet, the Fighting Knights set school records for both the men and women and the women posted an NCAA qualifying time.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the only event of the day, the women's 800-yard free relay, the Fighting Knights placed third and 13th.
  • The team of Ewa OsiniakShahaf BacharMathilde Bartolini, and Luna Mertins had a time of 7:28.99. Their time beats the Div. 2 standard of 7:29.84 and qualifies them for the NCAA championship, as well as sets a school record by almost five seconds.
  • Their time also places Lynn in third overall in the SSC Championship for women with 40 points, behind only Nova Southeastern (54) and Tampa (52).
  • The Fighting Knights in the Men's 800-yard free relay placed sixth and 14th. The sixth-place team of Malek Masmoudi, Julian Chan Quee Lin, Dalton Brown, and Joshua Fountain had a time of 6:40.96 which set a school record by almost seven seconds.
  • The men's swim is currently in sixth place overall in the SSC Championship with 32 points.

NEXT MEET:
The Fighting Knights' next event will be Day 2 of the SSC Championship on Thursday, Feb. 17th in Clearwater, Florida.
