Murray drives in four as Fighting Knights roll over Wheeling 16-8

Boca Raton, Florida – The Fighting Knights opened up the season with a dominant 16-8 win over the Wheeling Cardinals. Offense was the name of the game for Lynn, as they put up 16 runs to secure the opening day victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Fighting Knights came out of the gates a little sluggish in the first inning, allowing Wheeling to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
  • It only took one inning for Lynn to refocus, as they shut out Wheeling in the second inning. When they came to the plate in the bottom of the inning, Lynn scored three runs to take the 3-2 lead.
  • In the third inning, Daniel Alfonso hit a solo home run to left field to score the only run of the inning for the Fighting Knights, extending their lead to 4-2.
  • Wheeling tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, but then the onslaught began. Lynn scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth, on their way to 12 over the last six innings of the game to secure a 16-8 victory.
  • Byron Murray led the team with four RBI's, with three of them coming in the fifth inning. Murray also recorded the only triple of the game for the Fighting Knights.
  • Alfonso led the team with four total runs scored, while also batting 1.000 for the game in his two at bats. Brandon Kruzinski (3), Ryan Ford (2), and Anthony Sanabria (2) all scored multiple runs as well.
  • Matt Archer had a solid performance, with two hits in three at bats. He also recorded three RBIs in the game, which was second only to Murray.
  • Marvin Guzman was impressive in his winning start. In five innings pitched, Guzman recorded six strikeouts, while only allowing six hits.
  • Nathan Draves came in after the fifth inning and closed the game out for the Fighting Knights. Draves only allowed three hits in four innings pitched, while also throwing six strikeouts.

The Fighting Knights will be at home for their next game against Catawba University on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
