Lynn ends stroke play in fifth place, Ericsson finishes in top 10

EUREKA, Mo. – Top-ranked Lynn University closed stroke play on Thursday with a +2, 290 to finish in fifth place following the first three rounds of the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship. The Fighting Knights are one of eight teams to advance to the medal match play portion of the tournament that will take place over the next two days to decide the national champion.
 
Lynn will open match play (NCAA Quarterfinals) against Findlay on Friday morning in the head-to-head elimination round at 8:00 am on hole one. The winner of the match will advance to the semifinals later in the day.WGolf NCAA Championship - Day Three 51823
 
Joining Lynn and Findlay in the next stage of the championship are DBU, West Texas A&M, UIndy, Nova Southeastern, Henderson and Cal State East Bay.

Following the third round, the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced its National Award Winners and graduate student Maria Hoyos was selected as the PING WGCA Division II Player of the Year. Hoyos and junior Sara Ericsson were also announced as WGCA First Team All-Americans.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights finished the third round with 15 birdies
- Ericsson shot a -4, 68 and Hoyos finished at E, 72
- Ericsson carded seven birdies on the third day, including four on the back nine
- Ericsson finished the stroke play portion of the championship at +2, 218 to finish in the top 10 of the standings
- Hoyos posted one birdie on the front nine and one on the back
- She finished tied for 42nd place at +12, 228
- Junior Camila Madariaga fired a +3, 75 in the third round and tied for 21st place
- Freshman Isabelle Schlick also posted a +3, 75 on day three and is tied with Madariaga in 21st place
- Junior Adriana Iribarren shot a +7, 79 in the third round and tied for 72nd place at +17, 233
