GENEVA, Ohio – The 200 medley relay team of junior
Laura Dekoninck, sophomore
Malaika Schneider, graduate student
Luna Mertins and freshman
Lexi Lundell captured the National Title as the Lynn University men's and women's swimming teams opened their portion of the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships, Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The foursome of Dekoninck, Schneider, Mertins and Lundell captured the National Title with a 1:40.14, defeating Nova Southeastern (1:40.37)
- Lynn entered the event with the NCAA's second-fastest time at 1:40.53
- They are the first relay National Champion in program history
- Mertins was the lone returning member of last season's 200 medley relay team that captured sixth place and earned First Team All-American honors
- Individually, Dekoninck captured First Team All-American honors after finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.59
- Graduate
Sasha Giourtzidou finished in 37
th in the prelims on the 200 IM at 2:07.29
- Freshman
Max Tsyfarov was 23
rd in the 200 IM prelims in a school record 1:48.45
- Schneider finished in 21
st place in the 50 free prelims in 23.42
- Sophomore
Maurice Grabowski earned 37
th in the 50 free prelims in 20.38
- The Lynn women currently sit in fifth place in the team standings with 55 points
