BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University Athletics Hall of Famer and former Fighting Knight golfer Daniel "Danny" Young is set to make his major debut in the 153rd British Open this weekend. Young, now 33 years old, has qualified in a field of just 156 players after posting rounds of 71 and 67 in final qualifying at Dundonald Links just a few weeks ago.
Â
Prior to going professional and joining the European Tour in 2016, Young played a pivotal role in launching the Fighting Knight golf program into a new era of sustained excellence. Coming over to Boca Raton from Scotland, he competed in three NCAA Division II National Championships, helping the team to historic runner-up finishes in both 2011 and 2013, marking the first in program history.
Â
Individually, he nearly captured the national title in 2011, finishing runner-up after a hard-fought playoff that extended to the third hole. Young's legacy at Lynn is marked by a series of historic milestones: he became the program's first three-time All-American, first three-time All-Sunshine State Conference (SSC) selection, and first two-time First Team All-SSC honoree. He also became just the third golfer in school history to earn SSC All-Championship Team honors twice.
Â
Young was inducted into the Lynn University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019 after graduating just six years prior in 2013. Since going pro in 2016, Young has spent the last nine years making his way up the ranks in the European Tour. In 2025, Young reached sixth in the tour rankings after mainly sticking to the HotelPlanner Tour for most of the season. Most recently, he went on to have a joint runner-up finish at the Le Vaudreuil Challenge on June 28.

The 153rd British Open kicks off from the prestigious Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland on Thursday, July 17 with Young set to tee off later in the afternoon at 4:05 p.m.
