Jones Breaks Program Appearance Record in Baseballs Final Two Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. - Lynn University's baseball team finished up its season with a double-header loss to Nova Southeastern, 16-6 and 15-3, on Saturday night. Sam Jones pitched in both games, striking out three in 1.2 innings of work, giving him 31 appearances this season to break the previous school record.

Chris Chavez drove two runs in game one to tie his RBI total from 2009, then added an RBI in the second game to take sole possession of second place on the LU single season RBI list with 66.

Jones broke a school record that had stood for 12 years. Robb Brooks set the previous mark of 30 in 1995 with Jesse Kapellusch equaling that total in 1998. The junior from Bradenton, Fla., allowed just 15 of 45 inherited runners to score this year while posting a 3-2 record with onesave and 37 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched.

Lynn managed to go up 1-0 in the top of the first in each game but Nova Southeastern (35-21, 15-9) managed to score the equalizer in the home half of the inning. Dane Derstine had a fantastic day at the plate, going 5-for-8 with two runs scored and an RBI while Einar Atencio was 3-for-4 in game one with three runs scored.

The Fighting Knights close out the year 16-37-1 overall and 6-18 in the Sunshine State Conference.
