Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team split on the final day of the 5th Annual Nova Southeastern Sharks Classic, beating West Alabama 3-0 in a key South Region match-up before falling 3-0 to No. 17 Minnesota State-Mankota. The Fighting Knights move to 6-2 overall.
Six members of the Blue & White hit over .300 in the first match-up as they coasted to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 victory with Katie Bradley leading the way with 10 kills. Mallory Deneen had a 1.000 hitting percentage through six attempts while Chelsea Semprini logged nine kills and a .438 hitting clip.
Devon Woolard notched the double-double with 30 assists and 11 digs while Lacy Redwine led all student-athletes with 12 digs. The Fighting Knights were outstanding defensively by holding the Tigers to a .147 hitting percentage overall with a .000 and .091 hitting percentage through the first two sets.
Lynn was able to outlast UWA in the final set after jumping out to a 13-4 lead but the Tigers battled back to 23-20 until Woolard recorded her first kill for match point and a service error gave the contest to LU.
The Blue & White could not maintain their momentum in their matchagainst Minnesota State. The Mavericks hit .382 as a team while holding LU to a .157 hitting percentage. Katie Bradley led all Knights with eight kills and Haley Pratt hit a team-high .462 on seven kills and 13 attacks.
Lynn returns to action Friday, September 17, at 7 p.m. when it travels to Winter Park, Fla., to face Rollins in its Sunshine State Conference opener.
