BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University Athletics has announced the promotion of
Travis Nichols to Head Coach of the Fighting Knight volleyball program, making him the ninth head coach in program history and ushering in the next chapter of a national contender.
Â
Nichols, who joined the Fighting Knights as a volunteer assistant in 2018 before being elevated to full-time assistant coach in July 2019

, has been a driving force behind the most successful stretch in program history.
Â
"We had a very strong pool of applicants and Coach Nichols emerged as a top candidate very early on in the process," said Director of Athletics
Kathy Kroupa. "He has been integral to the success of Lynn Volleyball including the program's first National Championship last year. His commitment to the development of student-athletes is unmatched and his recruitment of high-level talent is well established. Travis has a clear vision for this program to continue to be a national contender and I look forward to his leadership as our next head coach."
Â
Since joining former head coach
Adam Milewski's staff full time in 2019, Nichols has played a pivotal role in recruiting, scouting, game plan analysis and on-court coaching. Over the past six seasons, the Fighting Knights have made six consecutive NCAA Division II South Region appearances, recorded five 20-plus win seasons, reached the Sweet Sixteen in 2023 and captured a program-best 33 victories en route to Lynn volleyball's first NCAA National Championship in 2024. During that span, Lynn has produced a 155-44 record along with 17 All-Americans and 27 All-Sunshine State Conference selections.
Â
Nichols' impact dates back to his arrival in 2018, when he helped guide the program from nine wins in 2017 to a 17-win campaign while specializing in detailed scouting reports and match preparation.
Â
A 2015 graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University, Nichols was a four-year starter on FGCU's men's volleyball club team, earning three all-conference selections and serving as team captain during the 2013-14 season. He also served as a student assistant coach for the Eagles' NCAA Division I women's volleyball team, contributing to a regular-season conference championship and an 87-64 overall record during his tenure.
Â
A native of South Florida and former Broward County Player of the Year at Cooper City High School, Nichols has remained active in the local volleyball community through his work with the Wildfire Volleyball Academy in Weston. Volleyball excellence runs in the family, as his father, Dave Nichols, won two NCAA National Championships as head coach at conference rival Barry University in 2001 and 2004.
Â
For Nichols, the opportunity to lead the program is both professional and deeply personal.
Â
"I'm incredibly thankful to Kathy (Kroupa) and the entire hiring committee for the trust they've placed in me," Nichols said. "I'm also grateful to President Kevin Ross for his continued support of our athletic department and the vision he has for excellence at Lynn University. And I owe so much to Adam (Milewski), he's been a mentor and a friend, and someone who helped build this program into what it is today. I've learned from him every day, and I'm proud to carry forward the foundation he helped establish.
Â
"This program means everything to me. I believe in our culture, I believe in our traditions and I believe in the standard of excellence that defines Fighting Knight volleyball. Most of all, I believe in the young women who make up this team. They are the heart of this program.
Â
"My commitment is to continue competing at the highest level nationally, but just as importantly, to continue developing these young women into the best versions of themselves: on the court, in the classroom and in life. Our mission goes beyond wins and championships. It's about growth, resilience, accountability and empowering our student-athletes to leave Lynn stronger, more confident and ready to lead wherever life takes them."
Â
With championship experience, recruiting success and a clear vision for sustained excellence, Nichols' appointment signals that Lynn volleyball will continue to set the standard in the years ahead.
