Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's baseball team won its second consecutive weekend series and third in the last four weeks after splitting Saturday's twinbill with Rollins 12-3 and 7-15. Jason Beaumont earned his fifth victory on the mound while Anthony Boza drove in six runs in the two games. The Fighting Knights record moves to 19-14 overall and 4-5 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Wildness plagued the Tars' pitching staff through much of the first game as Rollins' starter Will Krasne walked five batters in a little over an innings worth of work. He opened the bottom of the first by walking lead-off batter Austin Smith on five pitches then surrendered an RBI single to Boza to give LU a 1-0 lead.
Rollins managed to knot the game at one in the top of the second but the Blue & White were able to chase Krasne from the mound in the second when it put up a six spot. Back-to-back walks to Eric Herrera and Phil Mannelly started the frame before Steven Fernandez loaded the pond with a single. Kyle Radzewski then fought off several pitches to draw the bases loaded walk and put Lynn ahead 2-1.
Smith followed with a two-run single through the left side of the infield and Boza knocked in another run with a single through the same gap. Richie McVey and Dane Derstine made it a 7-1 Knights advantage with RBI ground outs.
Getting the second of his three hits on the afternoon in the fourth inning, Smith tripled to lead off and strode across home plate when Mike Diorio ripped a single into the right center gap. Derstine later added his second RBI with a single inside the third base line.
Beaumont (5-2) was his usual self on the hill, striking out six batters in 7.2 innings of work. He ran into trouble but pitched himself out of it in the seventh, walking a batter then giving up a two-out single before striking out Johnny Brill. Rollins, though, was able to get him out of the game in the eighth and score twice in the process.
Not happy with the Tars closing in, Boza turned the tide with one swing of the bat. The junior first baseman belted a three-run bomb in the bottom of the seventh to right center field. He has a team-high three home runs and 30 RBIs on the year.
The Tars were able to grab their first lead of the series in the second inning of game two, scoring twice to go on top 2-0. They added six in the third to pull away. Lynn looked as though it may get back into the game with three runs in the home half but RC scored once in the fourth, once in the sixth and five more times in the seventh.
Patrick Roedel was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles while Kyle Radzewski drove in two runs.
The Fighting Knights return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 5, at 3 p.m. when they host Florida Memorial. Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and select "Game Central."
