Perrotta (1-0) had little difficulty in his season debut, allowing one run on three hits with one walk while fanning seven batters. His only rough inning came in the second when the first three batters reached base to put PBA up 1-0.
Alex Freedman, though, made a fantastic play at short to start a double-play and Perrotta induced an inning-ending ground ball to limit the damage.
It was the Fighting Knights turn to light up the scoreboard in the fourth. Sal Giardina started the two-out rally after getting hit by a 0-2 fastball from Jonathan Kies and
Paul Stortini battled for a six-pitch walk. Washington followed with a double down the right field line before Matusik ripped one off the wall in left center field for a two-run double.
PBA ran into more trouble in the seventh as two pitchers surrendered four runs. Stortini jumpstarted the inning with a two-run triple down the right field line and the Blue & White had a case of déjà vu when Washington and Matusik followed again with consecutive doubles.
Holding a 3-1 lead, Perrotta ended his day by striking out the side in the sixth.
Troy Mannebach came on in relief and loaded the bases but struck out two batters to end the Sailfish threat.
The Fighting Knights were able to add another insurance run in the ninth with a RBI single by
Danny Carroll. Palm Beach Atlantic finished off its day with two runs in the ninth before
Ryan Lashley made a diving play down the third base line to end the game.
Lynn's starters over the weekend averaged six innings, three hits allowed, one run and five strikeouts in the three games.
The Blue & White return to the diamond on Friday, February 8, at 7 p.m. when they travel to Jupiter, Fla., and Roger Dean Stadium to battle Palm Beach Atlantic. Fans can follow the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
