Melbourne, Fla. – Two errors in the first four innings led to four unearned runs which Lynn University's 24th-ranked baseball team could not come back from in a 5-0 loss to Florida Tech on Friday night. Ryan Lashley extended his team-best hitting streak to 11 games. The Fighting Knights drop to 21-10 overall and 5-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Although not on his top game, Joe Perrotta (5-3) navigated through the first two innings until running into trouble in the third despite getting the first two batters out. A hit batsman put a runner on and FIT (22-9, 7-3 SSC) added two more runners with a single and fielder's choice to load the bases. The frame appeared to be over with a routine ground ball to third but a drop on the ensuing tag kept the inning alive and allowed the Panthers to score three in the inning.
A lead-off error in the fourth added to LU's woes as the runner reached home plate to give Florida Tech a 4-0 lead.
Lynn twice had runners on second with less than two outs but could not reach home plate. In the game, the Blue & White left eight runners on base.
Perrotta allowed five runs, one of which was earned, on seven hits over five innings. Peter Graffeo and TJ Sullivan tossed three perfect innings of relief for Lynn.
The Fighting Knights close out their series at Florida Tech with a double-header beginning at noon. Fans can catch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
