Box Score Saint Leo, Fla. - Lynn University's baseball team could not match Saint Leo's offense, falling 12-7 in the series opener Friday night. Three Fighting Knights smacked home runs, led by Jason Matusik who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in. The loss drops Lynn to 29-16 and 12-7 in the Sunshine State Conference.
The Blue & White had to play from behind the entire game after giving up five runs in the opening frame. Starting pitcher Joe Perrotta gave up four hits, one being a three-run home run, to give Saint Leo (30-13, 10-8-1) the early advantage.
Lynn's biggest inning came in the third when they were able to make it a one-run contest. Alex Freedman and Jason Matusik both hit two-run home runs, allowing teammates Enrique Perez and Ryan Lashley to touch home plate. Saint Leo responded with a run in the bottom of the inning.
A pair of hits in the fourth would knot the score at 6-6. Joey Sharkey grounded to score Corey Elasik before Enrique Perez hit a single to bring Gonzalez to the final base.
The Lions would score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the final lead change. Gonzalez gave Lynn another home run in the top of the sixth but Saint Leo responded with four more runs.
Matusik lead all batters with three hits while also providing two rbi. Peter Graffeo came in for 2.1 innings of relief giving up one run while striking out two.
