Baseball Sweeps Rollins and Pick up First Three SSC Wins of the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WINTER PARK, Fla. – After a four hour game delay due to weather, The No.22-ranked Lynn University baseball team (11-3, 3-0 Sunshine State Conference) took care of the Tars (3-7) in Saturday's doubleheader at the Alfond Stadium. The Fighting Knights won game one, 3-2, then came back and topped Rollins, 4-3, in game two to complete the three game series sweep on the road for the first time in five years.

Daniel Patrick (3-0) had yet another strong performance on the mound in game number one, winning his third game in as many tries. He pitched six and a third innings, allowing just five hits and two runs.

Travis Connolly started in the circle in the second game, pitching four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three batters.

A.J Falletta picked up his first win of the year, after coming in for relief for Connelly in the bottom of the fifth inning in game two.

Andrew Melchor finished the game off in the seventh allowing one hit and striking out one batter, during his inning on the mound, recording his second save to claim the series over the Tars.

Lynn came out with a hot bat in the first game, scoring two of their three runs in the first inning.  Alex Debellis started it off with a double, clearing the bases and scoring Alex Freedman from second base. Sal Girardina would drive in another run, Tom Kain, with a ground ball to short stop, to take the 2-0 lead.

The Tars were able to put one run on the board in the bottom of the first with a single up the middle. Patrick would strike out the Tyler Fairbanks looking to retire the side with one man left on base.

The Blue and White score one final run on an RCU error in the sixth inning. Matt Ackerman singled to center field but advanced to second on a throwing error scoring Giardina to win the game 3-2.

Game two was knotted up, 3-3, heading into the sixth, until Lynn took the lead for the final time of the series. The Tar made a costly throwing error by the first baseman, Michael Dolan, which put Michael Stemley on first base. Stemley took a hefty lead off first base and jetted to second for the stolen base. Rollins overthrew second base, sending the ball deep into right field directing Stemley home to score the game winning run.

The Fighting Knights have a couple days to rest before returning to the diamond on March 1 traveling to Lantana, Fla. to play Chestnut Hill in a double header. First pitch is set for noon.
