Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's baseball team (17-4) split two non-conference games on Saturday afternoon. After losing the first game to Winona State, 7-3, the Fighting Knights bounced back blanking Molloy, 4-0. Travis Connolly pitched the first complete game shutout of his career allowing seven hits while striking out four. Albert Lefran hit his second career homerun in the win over Molloy while going 3-for-8 over the course of the day.
In the second game against the Lions (2-4), Ben Schwanburg hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Lynn a 2-0 lead. An inning later Sal Giardina hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Alex Freedman to extend the Fighting Knights lead to three.
Molloy's Bobby Kelly came in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth. A batter later Lefran sent one over the right field fence to put Lynn ahead, 4-0.
Connolly tossed a complete nine innings for his first win of the season. Thomas Kain and Lefran both went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Winona State scored first in the top of the second on a fielder's choice that platted Travis Evanson from third. The Blue & White evened the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth on a double down the right field line by Giardina that plated Alex DeBellis.
The Warriors added six runs, five of which were unearned, on five hits and one Fighting Knights error in the top of the fifth inning.
Lynn rallied in the bottom of the eighth scoring two runs. The first was when Freedman scored on a groundout to shortstop by DeBellis. A batter later Kain advanced on a wild pitch then scored on a throwing error by Winona's catcher to cut Lynn's deficit to four. Lynn was unable to continue the rally in the ninth inning stranding two runners on base resulting in the non-region loss.
Chase Blazier earned the win on the mound for the Warriors tossing seven innings allowing one run on six Fighting Knights hits before Lucas Warren and Scott Freiburger came in to close out the game pitching one inning each, respectively.
Jed Vandernaald pitched four and two third innings for his first loss of the season allowing seven runs, two earned, while striking out four. Kyle Butcher pitched two and two third innings of relief where he allowed one hit and struck out two Warriors. Rob Guarnieri closed out the game facing six batters while striking out two. Giardina was the only member of the Blue & White to have a multi-hit game. The senior catcher went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
