Box Score Miami Shores, Fla.- Lynn University's 11th-ranked dropped a 17-3 decision to St. Thomas on Tuesday night. Matt Tietz went four-for-four at the plate with an RBI and one run scored. Alex DeBellis picked up a pair of hits and an RBI as the Fighting Knights move to 8-3 overall.
The Bobcats capitalized on a rough start from Lynn's starter Ryan Caporice who allowed seven earned runs through two thirds of the first. The Blue & White scored its first run in the top of the second when Debellis singled to the shortstop scoring Tietz who led off the inning with double down the left field line.
STU added five runs over the next three innings to lead 15-2 after five. Each team scored a run in the eighth while four Fighting Knights took the mound through the last four innings.
The Fighting Knights walked 14 batters in the loss striking out only two. Tom Kain was the only other member of Lynn's squad to record a hit alongside Tietz and DeBellis.
Caporice was credited with the loss in his first start of the season. Freshman Jonathon Wake tossed 2.2 innings allowing six runs on five hits. St. Thomas had 11 hits with two players recording mult-hit games.
