Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – The first of six games in six days went in Lynn University's 19th-ranked baseball team's favor with a 9-5 victory over Caldwell on Monday afternoon. Kyle Schindler went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored and Jordan Lindsay tossed five shutout innings. The Fighting Knights improve to 18-5 overall.
Brothers' united to give the Blue & White a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Eric Schindler doubled home the first run, scoring Matt Ackerman, before his twin, Kyle, smacked a RBI single up the middle and later scored on a wild pitch.
Kyle added to his RBI total in the fourth when he brought home both Ben Schwanburg and Matt Ackerman with a triple to right center field. Michael Stemle followed with a sacrifice fly, giving Lynn a 6-0 advantage.
Back-to-back doubles from Thomas Kain and Matt Tietz brought the score to 7-0 in the fifth and John Borup concluded the Fighting Knights' scoring in the eighth with a two-out, two-run single up the middle, plating Cory Gibson and Eric Schindler.
Lindsay was sharp in his first career start. Caldwell (1-3) had trouble from the onset as the junior right-hander held the Cougars without a hit until the fourth inning. Lindsay allowed only three hits with three walks and three strikeouts before being lifted in the sixth.
Sam Sampen made his debut on the mound for Lynn and tossed three scoreless frames. The junior right-hander surrendered three hits with three walks but also fanned two batters.
With the game nearly complete, the Cougars made their run, scoring five runs in the top of the ninth of Alex Reiner. Alex Caballero came to the bump with runners on the corners and one out. He conceded a single but struck out Noah Clark and then got Charles Grade to ground out weakly to end the game.
