Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's 19th-ranked baseball team may want to hit with two outs going forward. The Fighting Knights scored eight runs with two outs throughout a 12-6 victory over Florida Memorial on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 23-6 overall. Donovan Christman drove in three runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate and Alex Reiner had a pair of RBI on two hits.
Two separate double-steals set up the Blue & White to grab a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The first double swipe came from Eric Schindler and Albert Lefran as wild pitches followed to allow each to cross home plate. Later, with runners on the corners and two outs, Matt Ackerman stole second and Ryan Carmona raced home to score the third run of the frame.
A third double-steal attempt went in Lynn's favor in the fourth as both Lefran and Christman were off to the races to second and third. Florida Memorial (7-27) looked for the out at second base, but the throw went awry, allowing Lefran to trot across home plate.
After the Lions cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth, Alex DeBellis padded the Fighting Knights lead with a RBI single up the middle before Christman drove home two more, with two outs, on a base hit into center field.
Reiner followed suit in the sixth when he pinch hit for DeBellis. The junior out of Hong Kong, hit a slow roller through the left side of the infield, bringing home both Kyle Schindler and Carmona for a 9-4 advantage.
Matt Ackerman added a two-out RBI single in the seventh before a bases loaded walk and RBI groundout from Christman and Cory Gibson ended Lynn's scoring in the eighth.
Robert Guarnieri improved to 3-1 overall with another quality start (three runs or less over six innings). A junior out of Boca Raton, Fla., Guarnieri allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with three Ks.
Alex Caballero came to the bump in the seventh and allowed two runs, one earned, in one inning before ceding the mound to Sam Sampen in the eighth. Jordan Lindsay was the last Blue & White pitcher and the junior right-hander allowed one run on one hits with one walk and one strikeout.
