Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's 14th-ranked baseball team held leads in both games of its double header against Rollins but fell 14-6 in game one and tied 11-11 due to darkness in the second contest. John Borup went 5-for-10 on the day and Max Watt Fanned eight on the mound as the Fighting Knights moved to 31-12-1 overall and 12-8-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Two runs in the first off a Matt Tietz RBI single and RBI double from Alex DeBellis set up a potentially big day at the plate for the Blue & White only to have Rollins (20-26-1, 5-15-1 SSC) score eight unanswered runs over the next three innings. Travis Connolly (6-2), who sat down the Tars in the first, labored to in four innings, allowing eight runs, six earned with three walks and two strikeouts.
Borup brought new life to the Fighting Knights offense with a leadoff home run in the fifth, his fifth of the season, but Rollins added two runs in the seventh, three in the eighth and one more in the ninth. Lynn was able to recoup some runs in the seventh with a wild pitch and another RBI single from Tietz.
The Blue & White built an 8-0 lead over the Tars in the second game, batting around and scoring five times in the first to get ahead. Consecutive doubles from Matt Ackerman and Borup started the frame and continued with RBI base hits from Kyle Carter and Alex DeBellis and a solo home run from Ben Schwanburg.
Lynn's offense hummed along in the second with a Tietz sacrifice fly and added runs off a Tars error in the third and DeBellis single in the fifth. Max Watt allowed only two hits into the fifth while striking out eight batters. He sat down one in the first, three in the second and two more in each of the next two frames until a torrential downpour ensued.
Rollin's took full advantage by scoring five runs in the fifth to chase Watt from the game while Kyle Schindler allowed another run in the sixth. Lynn came back with a run in the sixth but the Tars were able to jump on the opportunity of wildness from Bill Mendek to grab an 11-9 lead.
Lynn had opportunities of its own in the bottom of the ninth and capitalized on a pair of wild pitches from Josh Stewart to send the game into extra innings. Rollins battled to put the winning run in scoring position in the 10th but AJ Falletta fanned two batters and induced an inning-ending fly ball before the game was called due to darkness.
