Lynn Baseball Unable to Overcome Pioneer Offense in 11-3 Loss

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team wrapped up their opening weekend on Sunday afternoon, falling 11-3 to Tusculum College at Lynn Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Tusculum combined three hits with three Lynn errors to take a 3-0 lead before the Fighting Knights even sent their bats to the plate for the first time.
  • Leftfielder Seth DeHaven homered in the second, and the Pioneers added six runs in the third frame on five more base hits to take a 10-0 lead.
  • Lynn finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth when John Borup's fielder's choice plated Kyle Schindler from third.
  • After another Tusculum run in the eighth, John Silviano hit his second home run of the weekend in the bottom half, and Jonathon Corbitt left the yard for the Blue and White to start the home ninth.

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Pioneer starter Zach Slagle picked up the win after allowing just one run over five innings of work.
  • Christian Raasch tossed the next two innings for Tusculum and finished as the only visiting arm of the day to not allow a run.
  • Devin Presley and Devan Watts combined for the final two innings and three strikeouts.
  • Freshman Tyler Constable received his first collegiate start for Lynn, allowing three earned runs over just 1.1 innings.
  • Ryan Caporice followed with 1.1 innings of his own, allowing six runs on six base hits along the way.
  • Mike McFerran was a bright spot in relief for the Fighting Knights, hurling 4.1 scoreless frames before giving way to Ben Fagan for the final two innings.
  • Pioneer centerfielder Jeremy Glore sparked his offense with four base hits, while three of his teammates each posted a multi-hit game.
  • For Lynn, second baseman Tyler Curtis went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Borup, Silviano, and Corbitt were credited with an RBI apiece.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • With Corbitt's ninth inning blast, the Fighting Knights now have nine home runs on the season from eight different players.
  • Lynn has hit at least one dinger in each game of the young season.
  • Silviano has gone 3-11 so far this year, with two of those hits leaving the yard.

UP NEXT

The Fighting Knights return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 2, when they travel to Jupiter to take on Palm Beach Atlantic University. First pitch from Roger Dean Stadium is slated for 6:00 pm.
