  • The Mocs got on the scoreboard in the fourth after a two-out error plated a run.
  • Donovan started the fifth with a double and later scored on a wild pitch.
  • Borup extended the lead to 7-1 with an RBI single through the right side just before the seventh inning stretch.

  • Florida Southern responded with a four-run home half, taking advantage of defensive mishaps by the Fighting Knights.

  • Lynn starter Frank Grandinette tossed seven innings without allowing an earned run.

QUOTABLE:

  • "I felt good from the first pitch, and I just wanted to focus on one pitch at a time. Giving my team an opportunity to win is all I care about. My teammates have my back and give me the confidence, so that's actually a big boost for me. It's huge for us to start conference with a win, and we're really starting to put the pedal to the metal right now."  – Lynn starting pitcher Frank Grandinette

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Grandinette improved to 3-0 on the season after fanning seven and hurling 130 pitches, including 84 strikes.
  • After Alex Caballero struggled as the first man out of the Lynn bullpen, Mike McFerran and Payton Smith each tossed an inning to close out the night.
  • Borup and Donovan each finished their night with three base hits, while Silviano, Turner, Grandinette, and Kyle Schindler went for two base knocks apiece.
  • Moc starter Ben Richardson lasted just 5.1 innings before giving way to the bullpen.
  • A.J. Smith struck out the first four Fighting Knights he faced before finally surrendering the last five runs.
  • Walker Burgess tossed a flawless ninth for the home nine, picking up a pair of whiffs along the way.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Both starting pitchers were right handers from Orlando, and neither had a loss entering play.
  • The Fighting Knights have now won four in a row, their longest such streak since last April.
  • Friday's win marked the first team in three seasons that Lynn has won the series opener against Florida Southern.
  • The Blue and White are 4-0 this season in games pitched by Grandinette.
