HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter

  • The Fighting Knights got off to a lackluster start, allowing five Coker goals in the opening 15 minutes.
  • After the home team lit up the board first, Anthony Rainone worked around the back of the opposing net until a path opened up, sniping a pass into Austin Jerhoff out front who buried Lynn's first goal.
  • Down 3-1, the Fighting Knights worked the ball around the top until Jacob Van Leenen's pass to Peter Masters opened up an outside shot for the freshman.
  • The Cobras tallied two more in the final five minutes to take a 5-2 lead after the opening period.

Second Quarter

  • Lynn scored the only three goals in the second quarter, spreading them throughout the stanza.
  • Jerhoff scored his second of the day right away, then returned the favor to Rainone at the 10:52 mark.
  • Following a Coker offsides call in the final minute, Lynn quickly capitalized on the mishap as Mikey Urso put away the equalizer to knot up a 5-5 tie at halftime.

Third Quarter

  • The Blue & White kept the offense rolling after the intermission, pouring in four more while keeping the Cobras out of their net.
  • Urso and Stephen Polsinelli did all of the damage in the third, with each scoring two goals and giving Lynn its first lead of the game a minute into the second half.
  • Polsinelli closed out the third quarter's scoring with a tremendous individual effort. While a man-down, Polsinelli trekked from one side of the field to the other, beating both of the defenders he drew with speed before cutting across the middle and burying an outside rip.

Fourth Quarter

  • Johnny Gavin got red hot in the final stanza, notching three goals and two assists in the final 15 minutes.
  • Lynn exploited Coker penalty flags, recording two man-up goals in the period.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Gavin led the way with five points, all coming in the fourth quarter, while Urso also produced a hat trick on five shots.
  • Jerhoff, Rainone, Masters and Polsinelli all finished with two goals apiece.
  • John Flanary, Cody Bartusiak and Jordon Van Leenen each chipped in two of Lynn's 14 caused turnovers.
  • Greg Onofri and Christopher Lasprogata combined to give Lynn a 15-10 advantage on the faceoff. The duo, along with keeper Pat Brothers, each scooped a team-high four groundballs. Brothers improves to 3-0 on the season between the pipes.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Lynn entered the USILA/Nike Division II Coaches Poll on Monday, marking the first national ranking in the program's history. The Fighting Knights enter at the No. 18 spot following the team's big win over previous No. 12 Mount Olive on Saturday.
  • Urso has recorded a hat trick in all three games so far, leading his squad with nine goals on the season.
  • Lynn fell to Coker by one goal at home last season in the program's first-ever overtime game.
