HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Rigo Beltran retired the first three Wildcat hitters of the day and designated hitter Frank Grandinette doubled down the left field line in the home half to put Lynn on top 1-0.
  • With the bases loaded and nobody out in the second, Austin Sprinkle's flyout to center was enough to push the lead to 2-0.
  • John Borup doubled in another run and Donovan Christman followed with a triple to give the Blue and White a 4-0 advantage.
  • A defensive blunder in the top of the third allowed the Wildcats to score their lone run of the contest.
  • Grandinette again doubled to start the fifth and Tyler Curtis singled him home two batters later. Eric Schindler added a sac fly before the inning ended and Lynn led 6-1 after five frames.
  • The sixth inning proved to be the final scoring stanza as the home nine scratched across three more insurance runs.

QUOTABLE:

  • "Today was a game where we had to throw a lot guys and they took advantage of their opportunities. We were able to be very efficient today because our guys worked down in the zone and ahead in the count. We're focusing on having good at bats every time we go to the plate and putting pressure on the defense." – Lynn head coach Rudy Garbalosa

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Beltran allowed three hits and one unearned run while fanning four over three frames. The southpaw now stands 2-1 on the season.
  • Ryan Caporice was the first man out of the Lynn bullpen, surrendering just one hit over his three innings of work.
  • Alex Caballero tossed the final third of the game, picking up a strikeout and giving up just one base hit en route to his second save of the year.
  • Borup, Christman, Alex Turner, and Jonathon Corbitt each went for two base hits.
  • Eric Schindler was the only player to drive in more than one run.
  • Starter Zach Frederick took the loss for Wilmington after allowing six runs on 11 hits over four innings on the bump.
  • Chris Lopez surrendered the final three Lynn runs before Mike Torres and Noah Latshaw each tossed a scoreless frame.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Lynn totaled 14 base hits for the day, the tenth time in the last 11 games with at least ten hits.
  • Both of Caballero's saves this season have come in long relief, as he has logged 5.1 innings in those games.
  • The Fighting Knights have won their last four games against schools from outside the state of Florida.
