HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1

  • The Spartans fired the opening salvos, tallying two runs in the first inning of the series.
  • Lynn responded in the home half, as a two-RBI single from Tyler Curtis capped a three-run frame to provide the home nine with its first lead.
  • Tampa infielders J.D. Osborne and Laz Rivera hit back-to-back homers to highlight a five-run top of the second.
  • SSC home run leader John Silviano crushed a solo shot to right in the third to cut the Lynn deficit to 7-4.
  • Each team posted a three-spot in the fourth, but Tampa followed with two in the fifth.
  • With runners at the edges and nobody out two innings later, the rain hit and forced the two teams to resume play on Saturday morning.
  • Silviano left the yard for the second time in the game in the home ninth, but the Fighting Knights were unable to complete the comeback.

Game 2

  • Tampa scored early in often in Game 2, scoring a pair in two of the first three innings before scoring five more in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead.
  • Silviano put the Blue and White on the board with his third long ball of the series in the bottom half.
  • John Borup opened the sixth with a double to right center, and Kyle Schindler was hit by the very next pitch. First baseman Ryan Donovan came away with an RBI-single through the defensive shift, and Schindler scored on a wild pitch.
  • Jonathon Corbitt slammed his fifth home run of the season after the stand-and-stretch to pull Lynn within four runs.
  • Alex Turner started the bottom of the ninth with a single into right field before making his way to third on back-to-back wild pitches. Corbitt then walked, and Borup brought in Turner with a base hit through the left side.
  • Lynn brought the tying run to the plate twice in the finale frame but failed to take advantage of either opportunity.

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Borup and Donovan combined for eight base hits the first two games of the series, while Borup and Silviano each drove in four runs.
  • Lynn starting pitchers Frank Grandinette and Jaret Vermillion took the loss in their respective games.
  • Tampa starters Christopher Wililams and Kevin Martin totaled 11 innings, 10 strikeouts and nine earned runs.
  • Osborne and Danny Lee each provided seven hits for the Spartans, as the team totaled 38 base hits.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Silviano has hit more than one home run in four of six SSC series this spring and his total of 19 is just two shy of the Lynn single season record.
