Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team muscled its way to a Sunshine State Conference victory on Friday night, defeating Eckerd College 11-3 on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eckerd scored the game's first run in the second inning, taking advantage of a defensive blunder in the Lynn outfield.
- After Garrett Hiott doubled to open the third frame, Nick Conti followed with a single up the middle to give the Tritons a 2-0 lead.
- Infielders Ryan Donovan and Tyler Curtis each drove in a run in the fourth, but a three-run bomb from Eric Schindler put the Blue and White in front for the first time.
- The home nine managed its final tally of the game in the fifth when Hiott scored his second run of the night.
- Miguel Ceballos left the yard in the top of the sixth, and John Silviano launched his SSC-best 20th dinger of the season a frame later.
- With the bases loaded in the eighth stanza, Lynn starting pitcher Frank Grandinette doubled to left to help his own cause.
- Ceballos struck again in the ninth, plating Alex Turner on a sacrifice fly to straightaway center field.
- Grandinette earned the win after allowing just two earned runs through eight chapters on the bump.
- Mike McFerran tossed the final inning for Lynn, overcoming a single for an otherwise unblemished outing.
STATS FROM THE GAME:
- Ceballos posted a 2-for-3 effort at the dish, driving in two and scoring three times while adding a pair of walks.
- Four Fighting Knights posted a multi-hit game, while Eric Schindler's three RBI held up as a game-high.
- Hiott sparked four base hits from the leadoff spot in the Eckerd order, scoring two of the team's three runs for the game.
- Starter Jack Mahan dropped to 2-2 on the year after allowing five runs on four hits and five walks through just 3.2 innings.
- The Tritons allowed 11 Lynn hits but went for 14 themselves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Friday night was just the third time this spring that the Blue and White have won a game despite being outhit by their opponent.
- Silviano is now just one home run shy of tying the single season school record.
- The Fighting Knights have won the opener in four of seven SSC series this season.
- Lynn has hit two or more long balls in 21 different contests.
