Baseball Sweeps Double Header, Series Against No. 16 Mocs

BOCA RATON, FLA. – The Lynn University baseball team took the diamond for a double header on Saturday looking for the series win, and got that done, and more. The Fighting Knights took game one, 14-5, and game two, 10-6. Frank Grandinette gave the Blue and White the start the squad knew he was capable of, and got the win to take the series on the mound. The hot-hitting bats kept going and Nuzzi was strong out of the bullpen, earning the three-inning save and enabling the sweep of nationally-ranked Florida Southern at home.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  •  Game 1
    • Tyler Curtis led the way once again at the plate, going 3-for-3, earning three free passes and crossing home plate four times himself.
    • Patrick Dorrian (three RBI), Miguel Ceballos (one RBI), Gabe Martinez (two RBI) and Jonathon Corbitt (two RBI) each earned two basehits. Also recording hits at the plate were Willie Seay (two RBI; came off the bench to replace Jarren Pinkney), Karl Ellison (one RBI), Jake Rouse and DJ Daniels.
    • Grandinette made his fourth appearance of the season, earned his first win on the season and recorded his best outing of the 2017 campaign. The senior gave up just one earned run on five hits and fanned eight Mocs batters.
    • Enrique Perez relieved the Fighting Knight starter in the seventh, and went on to pitch the final three innings, picking up his first save of the season.
  •  Game 2
    • Dorrian led the way at the leadoff spot, going 4-for-5 at the plate with one RBI and crossed home plate three times.
    • Ceballos only had one hit, but drove in a game-high three runs on his bomb.
    • Curtis was the second, and only other, member of the Blue and White to get multiple hits. The hot-hitting third baseman drove in two runs and scored once himself.
    • Ceballos, Pinkney Grandinette, Rouse, Corbitt and Seay all recorded one base knock in the final game of the series.
    • Michael Imperato was the game-three starter, but was quickly relieved after giving up three earned runs in the first two innings. Johnathan Eisdorfer came out of the bullpen and picked up is first win of the season, going 3.1 innings and giving up just one earned run on four hits and striking out three batters. Jonathon Wake saw .2 innings of work and Daniel Nuzzi came in to record his three-inning save (third save of the year).
 
 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • 14 runs scored in game two of the series gave the Blue and White the same score in two straight games. The Fighting Knights also scored 10 in game three of the series, giving them double-digit runs in all three games played this weekend.
  • This was the second straight series sweep over Florida Southern, which is the first time for that to happen in the history of the SSC matchup.
  • Every starter in game one of the double header for the Fighting Knights reached base safely.
  • The Blue and White relievers both earned three-inning saves in today's two games (Perez in game one, Nuzzi in game two).
  • Curtis had two straight perfect games at the plate, going 3-for-3 in game two of the series, and a combined 8-for-8 between yesterday's matchup and game two.  
  • Willie Seay hit his first bomb of the season. Five Fighting Knights combined to hit seven homers in today's double header.

Lynn has the week to prepare for its next SSC weekend series, as Nova Southeastern comes to town for game one, scheduled on Friday. First pitch set for 2:30 p.m. between the Sharks and Fighting Knights.
