Baseball Suffers Late-Inning Loss to Pioneers

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn baseball team made a habit of using big innings to earn victories this weekend, but the Fighting Knights fell to the Tusculum Pioneers with a taste of their own medicine on Sunday afternoon. The visiting team used a five-run top of the ninth to defeat the Blue and White 10-7.

STATS of THE GAME:

  • Rigo Beltran started his first game of the year, and was dominant, throwing four complete innings without giving up a hit. He left after the fifth inning, and had given up only one hit, but three unearned runs crossed the plate for the Pioneers. He also struck out five and walked two.
  • Jake Rouse, the lead-off hitter for the Fighting Knights, has been consistent at the plate all weekend, and continued his success today, hitting 2-for-5 with one RBI.
  • Jonathon Corbitt (2-for-4) and Jarren Pinkney (2-for-5) also put together multi-hit games for the Blue and White and led the home team with 2 RBI a piece.
  • Five different players recorded at least one RBI and crossed home one time on the day.
  • This game was not a clean one on the diamond, as there were a combined 10 errors (six-Lynn, four-Tusculum) and only 11 of the 17 runs were earned (6-of-10 for the Pioneers and 4-of-7 for the Fighting Knight).
 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The starting pitchers for Lynn received no decisions in each of the games this weekend.
  • The Fighting Knights used six different arms in today's loss.
  • The Pioneers came from behind by putting up five runs in the top of the 9th. This is the third consecutive game this weekend that a team used a four-plus run inning to win a game. Two of those were by Lynn and one today from Tusculum.
 

UP NEXT:

The Fighting Knights hit the road for the first time this season, playing Palm Beach Atlantic at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 pm.
