Baseball Sends Seniors Out Victorious

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team honored eight of its players, as they saw their final action on the Lynn Baseball Field, splitting the Senior Day twin bill, falling 5-4 in game one and taking the final game of the series, 10-5, on Saturday afternoon.

STATS OF THE GAME: 

  • Game 1:
    • Frank Grandinette continues his solid string of starts for the Fighting Knights in his final appearance on the mound at the Lynn Baseball Field. The senior went 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on 11 hits and six strikeouts.
    • Jonathan Eisdorfer made his final appearance at home as well, going the final 2.1 innings, giving up just one run on two hits and two strikeouts.
    • Seven of the nine starters for the Blue and White had hits, lead by Tyler Curtis and Alex Turner with two apiece.
    • Corbitt led the team with two of the team's four RBIs in the contest.
    • There were just nine runs combined for the Tritons and the Fighting Knights, but a total of 18 runners left on base.
    • Nick Conti did most of the damage at the plate for Eckerd, sending two blasts out of the park that proved to be the difference in the game, and the series.
  • Game 2:
    • Enrique Perez moved from a back of the bullpen guy to a back of the weekend starter for the first time in his career at Lynn. He went 4.0 innings giving up just one earned run on seven hits.
    • Jonathan Wake came in to relieve the starting Perez, and picked up his first win of the season, going 2.0 innings without giving up an earned run.
    • Daniel Nuzzi continued to be dominant as a closer, picking up a three-inning save, good for his fifth of the season. He struck out four in his fifteenth appearance of the 2017 campaign.
    • The Tritons outhit the Fighting Knights, 10-7, but in the column that counted, the home team doubled the visiting team in runs, 10-5.
    • Grandinette was electric at the plate, leading the team with a 3-for-5 performance, four RBIs and a run scored.
    • Turner also turned in a three-hit day at the plate, while the only other member of the Fighting Knights to record a hit was Miguel Ceballos.
 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE: 

  • The 10-5 victory for the Blue and White snapped what was a six-game losing streak for the home team.
  • This was the first series loss at home since Nova Southeastern took two of three on March 3 and 4.
  • Game three of this series was the first win with scoring double digits since downing Saint Leo, 12-10 on April 8.
  • The game three victory marks the twentieth home win for the Blue and White this season.
  • Perez made his first start for Lynn on the mound in game three.
  • The following seniors were honored for Senior Day 2017: Donovan Armas, Cebellos, Curtis, Ellison, Grandinette, Turner, Turner and Eisdorfer – all saw action for the final time this weekend.
  • The Fighting Knights have been a dominant hitting team, and own a team average of .336, slugging percentage of .558, and have sent 81 balls out of the park through just 44 games.
