Box Score Daytona Beach, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team opened up its 2017 slate in exciting fashion on Friday afternoon, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to take down Missouri S&T in five sets (25-22, 15-25, 26-28, 25-22, 15-12). The frontline defense proved stout as the Fighting Knights broke the school record for total blocks in a match with 20. Freshman Lauren Odom played a large role in that, tying the program's individual record for total blocks (12) in a match.

STATS OF THE GAME:
- Two Fighting Knights notched double-doubles on the day. Sonja Udovcic recorded 12 kills on a .219 attack clip to go along with 15 digs and seven blocks defensively. Nicol Colonna picked up where she left off last season with 11 kills, 12 digs and four blocks.
- Odom and Marcella De Vuono showcased solid efforts as the new presence at the middle blocker position. Odom added five kills to her program-record-tying 12 blocks while De Vuono tacked on nine kills (.222) and seven stuffs.
- Freshman Andrea McDonald donned the libero kit in her collegiate debut, scooping up 30 digs – the most in a match from a Fighting Knight since 2014.
- Angala Jensen got the starting nod at the setter position, accumulating 42 assists, 14 digs and three block assists.
- Jaja Perkins dropped in a match-high three service aces while converting nine swings for kills. She added 12 digs and three blocks to the defensive effort.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Eight players made their Lynn debuts on Friday, including all four in the 2017 freshman class.
- Five years to the day – Odom's 12 total blocks ties the program record for blocks in a match, set by Briana Cox on Sept. 1, 2012.
- McDonald is just the ninth player to ever record 30 or more digs in a match for Lynn.
- Both season openers the past two years have gone to a decisive fifth set.
