Baseball Buries Bucs in Series Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team picked up its fifth straight victory on Friday afternoon, knocking off Sunshine State Conference rival Barry by a final score of 11-6. The victory snapped Barry's eight-game winning streak, and moved the Fighting Knights into a tie for the third-highest win total in the SSC.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Patrick Dorrian helped power the offense on the day, registering a 4-for-5 performance with two doubles, three runs and three runs batted in.  He drove in runs in the first, fifth and eighth innings en route to his third four-hit game of the season.
  • Tom Archer homered for the second game in a row, chasing Barry's starting pitcher in the seventh inning with a solo home run to left field that extended Lynn's lead at the time to 5-2. Archer reached base and scored three times, adding a pair of hit-by-pitches to his line.
  • Gabe Martinez notched his second three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-5 out of the No. 2 spot in the order. The senior scored twice on the day for the Blue and White's offense.
  • Shayne Fontana continued his solid play of late, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. He collected his third triple of the season in the sixth inning, clubbing a ball high off the wall in center field.
  • Anthony Franco earned his first win as a Fighting Knight, posting a quality start with 6.0 innings pitched and just two earned runs allowed. He scattered four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
  • Enrique Perez pitched a pair of scoreless and hitless innings, striking out four of the seven batters he faced.
  • Billy Facteau worked 0.2 innings, allowing no hits and just a walk, though the Bucs tallied four unearned runs in the process. Alec Hernandez finished the game with 0.1 innings of work.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Dorrian extended his on-base streak to 25 games to open the season and now has eight games with multiple RBIs and 11 games with multiple hits.
  • Martinez has tied Dorrian for the longest hitting streak of the season at nine games, while Fontana has an eight-game hitting streak of his own and Archer is sitting at seven games.
  • Lynn's five-game winning streak is its longest of the season, and the team has now won three straight SSC contests.

The two teams face off in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon at the Lynn Baseball Field. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
