Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Barry

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team picked up its first Sunshine State Conference series sweep of the season on Sunday, taking the third game in a row from Barry by a final score of 11-10. For the second game in a row, the Fighting Knights used a late-inning home run to claim the victory as Alec Ojeda's eighth-inning long ball proved the difference after the Bucs scored two runs in the top half of the inning to tie the game.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Ojeda's home run was his second of the week and recaptured the lead for the Fighting Knights who led each of the first seven innings of play. He finished the day 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored.
  • Patrick Dorrian had another multi-hit game for the Blue and White, going 2-for-4 and driving in four runs. He had a solo home run in the third inning before knocking a bases-clearing double into the left-center field gap in the fourth inning.
  • Shayne Fontana had a three-hit game, adding a pair of runs and an RBI as he hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. It was his second home run of the week after he hit a two-run shot against Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday.
  • Tom Archer had two hits out of the leadoff spot in the order, driving in a run and scoring once while drawing a walk.
  • Tyler Green and Willie Seay each added a hit and an RBI on the day, with Seay scoring twice and Green scoring once.
  • Enrique Perez earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief, allowing three hits and two runs with three strikeouts. It was the second straight game in which he picked up the victory out of the bullpen.
  • Philip Quinn started for Lynn, going 5.0 innings and allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
  • Fighting Knight pitchers stranded 11 Barry baserunners on the day, while the Blue and White only left three runners on base offensively.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Fontana had an outstanding week for the Fighting Knights, reaching base in 71.4 percent of his plate appearances.
  • Dorrian's four-RBI game was his third of the season and his ninth multi-RBI game overall. He continued his on-base streak to open the season to 27 games.
  • Archer currently owns the longest active hitting streak on the team at nine games.
  • Lynn's seven-game winning streak is the team's longest since 2015 when the Fighting Knights rattled off eight straight wins.

Lynn concludes a stretch of six games in seven days on Monday night with a 6 p.m. game against NYIT at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana.
