Baseball Upsets No. 3 Florida Southern

Lakeland, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team continued its winning ways on Friday night, knocking off the No. 3 team in the nation, Florida Southern, by a final score of 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference action. It was the Fighting Knights' ninth straight win, and was the first time all season that the Mocs have lost on their home field. Willie Seay's three-run home run provided most of the offense, while Anthony Franco tossed 5.1 innings with three runs allowed.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Seay's three-run home run in the top of the first inning gave the Fighting Knights an early cushion, as the designated hitter launched his fifth long ball of the season.
  • Tom Archer hit a key home run of his own, tagging his third round-tripper of the season in the fourth inning to make it 4-2 in favor of the Blue and White. He finished the day with three hits, two runs and an RBI.
  • Gabe Martinez turned in a two-hit game out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup, scoring on the home run by Seay in the first inning.
  • Franco picked up his second consecutive win with 5.1 innings of work, striking out seven batters while allowing three earned runs on eight hits and a walk.
  • Enrique Perez logged his third save of the season, pitching the final 3.0 innings and allowing just two batters to reach base safely with a pair of strikeouts.

  • Lynn moved above .500 in SSC action for the first time this season after winning each of its last six conference games.
