BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team fell behind early and never recovered on Friday afternoon, as Embry-Riddle took the first game of the three-game series by a final score of 8-2. The Fighting Knights twice cut the deficit to two runs, but the Eagles pulled away late with a four-run ninth inning to secure the Sunshine State Conference victory.

STATS OF THE GAME:

• Shayne Fontana and Alec Ojeda each tallied multi-hit games for the Fighting Knights and drove in one run apiece.
• Ojeda's RBI came on a solo home run in the fifth inning that got Lynn on the board, cutting ERAU's lead to 3-1 at the time.
• Fontana narrowed the gap to 4-2 in the eighth inning when he tallied a run-scoring groundout.
• Patrick Dorrian had a hit and a run in the game, while Alejandro Martinez, Gabe Martinez and Joe Argumedo collected the remainder of Lynn's hits.
• Daniel Nuzzi worked a brisk 8.0 innings, scattering seven hits while allowing four runs with six strikeouts.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• Nuzzi's 8.0 innings of work marks the longest outing for a Lynn starting pitcher this season and were a career high for the senior.
• Dorrian extended his on-base streak to 40 games this season and 47 games overall as the infielder has reached base safely via hit, walk or hit-by-pitch in each game he has played this season.
• Clocking in at 2:16 in length, it was the shortest game of the season for the Blue and White.

The two teams close the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon. Originally scheduled for Sunday, game two of the doubleheader has been moved up due to potential rain in the forecast on Sunday.
