Baseball's Eighth-Inning Rally Sinks Tars

Boca Raton, Fla. – Lynn University's baseball team showed its resilient spirit once again on Saturday afternoon, scoring five runs in the eighth to propel itself to a 9-6 defeat of the Rollins College Tars in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) play. Anthony Sanabria put Lynn in front with a double to right before Tom Archer broke it open with a three-run homer to left, securing the Blue and White's first home SSC win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Rollins wasted little time in getting ahead for the second straight game, scoring a run in the first to go in front 1-0.
  • Joe Argumedo helped the Fighting Knights answer in the bottom half, lacing a two-run double down the left field line to put Lynn ahead 2-1.
  • Joshua LaPrest knocked in Cal Bocchino on an RBI single in the next at-bat as the Blue and White plated three in the first.
  • The Tars retook the lead in the third, scoring three in the frame to pull in front 4-3.
  • A Bocchino RBI single scored Shayne Fontana, who reached on an error, to knot the game back at 4-all.
  • Lynn found its offensive rhythm in the eighth, exploding for five runs in the inning to take a commanding 9-4 advantage into the final frame.
  • In the eighth, Anthony Sanabria ripped a two-run double down the right field line to score Joe Argumedo.
  • Archer then came to the dish and didn't disappoint, snapping a 0-for-8 stretch at the plate with a three-run homer to left. Alec Ojeda came around to score on a wild pitch with Fontana at the dish to put Lynn up five.
  • Rollins got two runs back, making the score 9-6, before Alec Hernandez finished off the game for Lynn, evening the weekend series at 1-all.
  • Kendrick Pico was excellent in relief of starter Samuel Beck, going 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and striking out two for his first win of the season.

 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Through ten games at Lynn University Field, the Fighting Knights and their opponents have combined for 25 home runs.
  • Lynn improves to 8-2 at home.
  • The Fighting Knights' 4-7 hitters had seven of the team's ten hits.
  • Six of Lynn's nine wins have come in relief.
  • Archer's long ball was his first of the season and seventh of his career.
