Fighting Knights take the doubleheader against Saint Leo

Boca Raton, Florida – The Fighting Knights sweep the doubleheader with all-around team play in both games over Saint Leo.

Game 2 Final: Lynn 7 Saint Leo 2

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

  • The Fighting Knights started the game off swinging with three runs in the first inning. After an Anthony Orrico walk Byron Murray hir a double to center field to score the first run of the inning for Lynn.
  • Anthony Sanabria followed it up one at-bat later with a single to right field, bringing home Murray. A Daniel Alfonso double to right field scored the third run to take a 3-0 lead going into the second.
  • Greyson Fletcher received his third start of the season for the Fighting Knights.
  • Two strikeouts by Fletcher in the top of the second inning retired the side quickly for Lynn.
  • In the bottom of the third Lynn added to runs to take a 5-0 lead after three. Orrico had a leadoff single to first base to start the inning. One at-bat later Ryan Ford hit a bomb to right field to extend the Lynn lead.
  • Lynn added a lone run in the fourth inning to extend to a 6-0 lead. A lead-off double from Matt Archer put him in scoring position early in the inning. A wild pitch by Saint Leo brought home the only run of the inning.
  • Saint Leo scratched for the first time with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 6-2 lead for Lynn.
  • The Fighting Knights would score one run on the inning. Saint Leo throws their second wild pitch and Archer capitalized with another run.
  • Jose Martinez replaced Fletcher in the top of the seventh inning. Fletcher finished with seven strikeouts, allowed eight hits, and gave up two runs in six innings pitched.
  • Drew Dwyer and Jake Buxbaum also came in later in the game.
  • Saint Leo scores three in the inning to trim it to a 7-5 lead for Lynn.
  •  After one run scored in the ninth inning to cut the lead to one the Fighting Knights got the one out needed to close the game. Lynn picked up the first win of the weekend series against Saint Leo 7-6.
  • Archer led the way for the Fighting Knights with three hits, while also scoring two runs in the game. Orrico and Alfonso were right behind him with two hits apiece.
  • Ford finished the game with two RBIs and a home run, his third home-run of the season.
  • Fletcher picked up his third straight win, making him 3-0 on the season. Buxbaum received his third save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

  • Saint Leo scored the first two runs- of the game to take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
  • Jordan Winston got his fourth start of the season with a 2-1 record to show early in the year.
  • Lynn was held scoreless in the first inning but started to get things going in the bottom of the second. Anthony Sanabria had a leadoff single to right field to start the inning for Lynn.
  • One at-bat later Daniel Alfonso hit a double down the left line, bringing home Sanabria to make it a 2-1 Saint Leo lead.
  • Winston goes three up and three down to retire the side in the top of the third.
  • Orrico has a leadoff hit singled to shortstop for the first hit of the inning. Sanabria with another single to left field later in the inning brings home Orrico and ties the game 2-2.
  • Alfonso hits a home run later in the inning to left field to bring home Sanabria and take a 3-2 lead after three innings played.
  • Brandon Kruzinski got things going for the Fighting Knights in the fourth inning with a double to left field. Mistakes by Saint Leo put runners in scoring position for Lynn.
  • Orrico hit a single to the pitcher to bring home Kruzinski. Byron Murray doubled to left field the very next at-bat to bring Archer home. Lynn extended their lead 6-2 after four innings played.
  • Two strikeouts from Winston in the top of the fifth helped keep Saint Leo scoreless for their fourth straight inning.
  • Nathan Draves came to relieve Winston in the top of the seventh inning. Winston allowed seven hits, threw four strikeouts, and allowed two runs in 5.2 innings pitched
  • The Fighting Knights would pick up one more run in the eighth inning to make it a 7-2 advantage.
  • Lynn would hold Saint Leo scoreless for the final eight innings of the game to take a 7-2 victory over Saint Leo. Orrico was trailing closely with two hits of his own.
  • Winston got his third won of the year, while Draves got his second save.
  • Murray, Alfonso, and Sanabria were the catalyst in the second game of the doubleheader with three hits each in the game. Orrico was trailing closely with two hits of his own.
  • Alfonso would lead the way with three RBIs. Murray was second on the team with two.

The Fighting Knights will be back home to face Saint Leo on Sunday, February 27, at 11 A.M.
