Fighting Knights take doubleheader vs Mercy; Godmaire goes 5-5 on the day

Boca Raton, Florida - Coming off a split doubleheader vs Kutztown, the Fighting Knights picked up two wins today in their doubleheader vs Mercy. After winning the first game 6-2, they had a rally in the bottom of the sixth of game two to win 6-4.

Game 2 Final: Lynn 6 Mercy 4

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

  • In the top of the first, the Mavericks scored their only two runs of the game.
  • Josey Sumpter recorded her first K of six in the top of the second.
  • Later in the inning, the Fighting Knights added two runs to tie the game. 
  • After Sumpter doubled to right center, she scored on an error. Karlie Sweiderk also scored for Lynn after she singled to get on, tying the game 2-2.
  • Lynn added another run in the bottom of the third. Janelle Dominguez touched home for the Fighting Knights after Brittney Davis hit an RBI double.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Sweiderk walked and scored due to an RBI double from Monique Poitevin, Lynn leading 4-2.
  • Lynn tallied their last runs in the bottom of the sixth. Poitevin and Sweiderk scored after an RBI double from Aymee Godmaire. The Fighting Knights would win 6-2.
  • Godmaire went 4-4 with two RBIs.
  • Sweiderk went 1-1 with three runs and two walks.
  • Poitevin went 1-1 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Davis went 1-2 with an RBI.
  • Sumpter went 1-3 with a run. She also pitched a complete-game win, allowing just two runs on five hits. She also had six strikeouts in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

  • The Fighting Knights struck first in game two. After Lexi Butler singled and Godmaire walked, Dominguez hit a two-RBI double for Lynn to go up 2-0.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Mavericks tied up the game on a deep RBI single.
  • Lynn took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth. With Ashley Davis singling to center, Godmaire later drove her in on an RBI double. Fighting Knights leading 3-2.
  • Mercy took the lead in the top of the sixth to go up 4-3.
  • The Fighting Knights took the lead back for the win in the bottom of the sixth.
  • After Fernandez singled, Sumpter drove her in on an RBI double to left field.
  • Sumpter would score after Morgan Simpson hit a bunt single.
  • The final run for Lynn came off of a double steal with Simpson taking second and Davis scoring. The Fighting Knights won 6-4.
  • Dominguez went 1-3 with two RBIs and a double.
  • Godmaire and Sumpter both went 1-1 with a run, an RBI, and a double.
  • Simpson went 1-1 with an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Fernandez went 1-3 with a run.
  • A. Davis went 1-2 with a run. B. Davis went 1-1 with a run.
  • Haley Fardanesh who started pitched 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on six hits
  • Madison Prickett who came in relief got the win. She pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits. She also had five Ks, two in the top of the seventh.
