Fighting Knights take double header against Panthers 7-6; 3-2

Boca Raton, Florida - The Fightings would take the series against Florida Tech 2-1. In the first game of the doubleheader the Fighting Knights used a big second inning to carry them to an 7-6 victory. Game two fo the doubleheader was tightly contested the whole game. A walk-off hit by Anthony Sanabria put the Fighting Knights over the top 3-2.

Game 2 Final: Lynn 3 Florida Tech 2 
Records: Lynn (21-13, 9-9 SSC),  Florida Tech (26-11, 9-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

  • The Fighting Knights would pitch a shutout in the first two innings, then scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take an early 4-0 lead over the Panthers.
  • Ryan Ford with the first at-bat in the second inning belted a home run shot to right field to score the first run of the game. A Brandon Kruzinski single to right field and an error by Florida Tech allowed the Fighting Knights to score three more unearned runs in the inning, to take a commanding lead heading into the third.
  • Marcus Eusebio would strike out two batters for the first and second out of the inning in his fifth start of the season for the Fighting Knights.
  • The bottom of the fourth saw Lynn add one run to their total and take a 5-0 lead with only five innings left to play. A hit by pitch, a sacrifice bunt, and a passed ball were all Lynn would have to do for Tal Erel to come around for the only run of the inning.
  • In the top of the sixth Florida Tech would get on board with a single to right field to bring home a solo run.
  • The bottom the sixth inning would see Lynn match the Panthers with a solo run in the inning. A Pedro Martinez single with the first at-bat of the inning was the start they wanted coming out. A wild pitch by the Panthers a few at-bats into the inning allowed Martinez to score the only run of the inning and make it a 6-1 Lynn lead.
  • Nathan Draves would go three up and three down in the top of the seventh to retire the side for the Fighting Knights.
  • In the top of the eighth inning the Panthers would find life scoring two runs and making it a 6-3 Lynn lead.
  • Lynn would respond with a solo run in the bottom of the eighth to add to their 6-3 lead. Joseph Rosselli was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that brought home the lone run of the inning for the Fighting Knights to make it a 7-3 game.
  • Florida Tech would try and make a triumphant comeback in the ninth inning falling short, scoring three runs in the final inning. Lynn would stand strong in the ninth inning as they take a 7-6 win over the Panthers.
  • Kruzinski led the way for the Fighting Knights with two hits and two RBIs, followed by four other Lynn players with one hit each.
  • Eusebio moves to (2-1) on the season finishing the game with six strikeouts, while also allowing zero runs, and four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

  • The Fighting Knights would stifle the Panthers defensively through the first four innings holding them scoreless.
  • In the top of the first inning Jordan Winston set the tone with three straight strikeouts. Winston would have three of his four strikeouts in the first three innings for Lynn.
  • Lynn would socre their fist two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Peter Avino smashed a single to right field for the first of the inning.
  • Later in the inning a series of mistakes by Florida Tech and a Brandon Kruzinski single brought home the only two runs of the inning for the Fighting Knights.
  • Florida Tech would score one run in the fifth and sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2 with three innings left to play.
  • The Fighting Knights would need extra innings to take care of the Panthers. Peter Avino would hit a single to right field to put a runner on base. Anthony Sanabria belted a single to right field for the walk-off hit, bringing home Avino and taking the game and series over Florida Tech 3-2.
  • Sanabria, Kruzinski Ryan Ford, and Avino would lead the way offensively for Lynn with each recording two hits for the game. Sanabria and Kruzinski would have the only RBIs of the game for Lynn.
  • The Fighting Knights pitching crew would throw a combined eight strikeouts, while allowing only two runs for the game.

The Fighting Knights will be back at home against St. Thomas on Tuesdat, Apr. 5 at 3 p.m.
