Ericsson and Hoyos named First Team All-American; Huarte named South Region Coach of the Year

Boca Raton, Florida - Sara Ericsson, Maria Hoyos and head coach Marcelo Huarte have been honored by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for their work during a successful season that saw the Fighting Knights take home the South Region championship and qualify for matchplay at the NCAA National Championship. This is the second season in a row that the Fighting Knights have had two golfers honored as First Team All-Americans. In addition to being selected as All-Americans, both golfers and teammate Alice Gatti were selected to the WGCA Division II All-Region South Team. For Huarte, this is the second year in a row he has been named the South Region Coach of the Year, and the third time in four seasons.

Ericsson was ranked as the top golfer in the NCAA for a portion of the 2021-22 season, and she finished second at the Sunshine State Conference Championship. She won the Legends Invitational in October of 2021, and she finished in the top five at five events throughout the year.

Hoyos finished in the top five at three events this season, and she set the school record for a single round when she shot a 65 (-7) over the final 18 holes at the Palm Beach Intercollegiate. In Lynn's national quarterfinal matchup against Anderson (SC), Hoyos won her matchup by posting a round of 70 (-2).

In his fourth season at the helm of the women's golf team, Huarte was honored as the NCAA DII South Region Coach of the Year after leading his team to an NCAA South Region title. Last season, Huarte and his team finished as national runner-ups, and despite losing national champion Helen Kreuzer, Huarte was able to turn his team into a national contender again this season.

Under his leadership, the Fighting Knights won five events in 2021-22, and they never finished lower than fourth place at any tournament in the regular season.
