Archer signs with the White Sox

Boca Raton, Florida - Former Lynn University second baseman Matt Archer has signed with the Chicago White Sox as an undrafted free agent. He becomes the 25th Fighting Knight to sign with a Major League Baseball organization since Head Coach Rudy Garbalosa took over the program in 2001.

"Matt did an incredible job overcoming adversity, staying focused on his goals and working relentlessly towards them," Garbalosa said. "He is truly an inspiration. I look forward to seeing him progress and grow professionally."

Archer played for two seasons at UCF before transferring to Lynn, where he made an immediate impact in 2022. Earlier this offseason, Archer was named All-SSC Second Team for his work with the Fighting Knights this past season. In 28 games, Archer hit .330 with an on-base percentage of .397 and a slugging percentage of .453. He belted 10 doubles and 35 hits on the year.

"I am so grateful for my time at Lynn University because of the people that made it so special," Archer said. "Coach Garbs gave me an unbelievable opportunity to grow in my time there, and I consider him the most genuine human I have ever been around. It is very rare to have a college coach who cares more about his team as people than players. He bleeds blue and white, and his passion for Lynn and the baseball program is unmatched."

Archer continued, "My teammates welcomed me with open arms and made coming to the field every day such a great experience. I am so grateful for the bond we formed and how supportive they were. Having the opportunity to become a member of the Chicago White Sox organization is a dream come true, and I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to live out my dream of becoming a professional baseball player. My time at Lynn has helped prepare me for what lies ahead, and I am thankful to be able to call myself a Fighting Knight!
