Maria Hoyos has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the fifth time this year, Monday. Her five weekly awards are the fourth most in SSC history among women's golfers.
Hoyos posted two top-10 finishes on the week and she opened with eighth place (+6, 222) at the Lynn Invitational, while helping the Fighting Knights to the tournament victory.
Hoyos followed with a win at the Harvard Invitational in Osprey, Fla., shooting a -8, 172 to grab the victory by four strokes. Hoyos led the Harvard Invitational in Par 4 scoring (-7, 2.72) and birdies (12) and she tied for the tournament lead in Par 5 scoring (-3, 4.70).
As a team, Lynn won the Harvard Invitational at +4, 724, defeating host Harvard by six strokes and Princeton by nine strokes.
The win at Harvard is Hoyos' fifth win of the season. Lynn is currently No. 1 in the nation as announced by the Women's Golf Coaches Association last Friday. The Fighting Knights received 13 of the 14 first-place votes in the poll.
Lynn returns to the course at the SSC Championships on April 16-18 in Dade City, Fla. This year's championships will be hosted Saint Leo University at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club – South Course.
