FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Lynn University men's and women's swimming teams totaled three wins and 21 top three finishes on the first day of a two-day dual with FIU and Nova Southeastern, Friday.
Luna Mertins won the 100 backstroke for the women, while
Maurice Grabowski (50 freestyle) and
Max Tsyfarov (200 IM) added wins on the men's side.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Women):
- In the 200 yard medley relay,
Laura Dekoninck,
Malaika Schneider, Mertins and
Lexi Lundell finished in third place at 1:44.17
- The Lynn relay team of Lundell, Schneider,
Lily Drons and
Luz Tapia took third in the 400 freestyle (3:34.79)
- Mertins won the 100 back with a time of 56.39 and placed third in the 50 butterfly in 25.33

Lydia Douthit placed third in the 200 butterfly (2:08.76)
- Tapia added a second place finish in the 200 free in 1:53.16

Mariele De Santis finished second in the 200 IM (2:07.94)
HOW IT HAPPENED (Men):
- In the 200 yard medley relay,
Paul Melcer, Tsyfarov, Grabowski and
Spencer Hobbs finished in second place at 1:32.49
- The 400 freestyle relay group of
Vitaly Kostin,
Cole Faikish, Hobbs and
Ryan Zasas took second in 3:08.93
- Grabowski won the 50 free with a time of 20.96 and took second in the 50 butterfly at 22.64
- Tsyfarov won the 200 IM in 1:53.98 and placed second in the 50 breast in 26.26
- Kostin swam the 500 yard free in 4:36.37 to finish in second place, while also taking second in the 200 free (1:38.63)
- Zasas took second in the 200 breast (2:06.97) and third in the 50 breast (26.35)

- Hobbs finished in second place in the 50 butterfly (23.41)
- Melcer placed third in the 100 back (55.47)
