Memphis, Tenn. – One goal was all Lynn University's 23rd-ranked men's soccer team needed in a 1-0 victory against Christian Brothers on Sunday afternoon. Kyle Conrad scored his sixth career game-winner while the Fighting Knights defense allowed just two shots on goal in improving to 2-0.
Lynn and CBU played nearly the entire match with 10 guys on the pitch following early double-yellow cards to Yannick Skull and Christian Dohnert. The first cards came out 20 minutes into play before a dangerous double-tackle three minutes later ended the day early for both players.
With the freedom to move around the field, the Blue & White attacked the Buccaneers with fervor. Their patience paid off in the 33rd minute. Harald Gracholski, who narrowly missed on a shot at 28:45, lofted a cross into the box from the right wing and Conrad jumped over a heap of CBU and LU players to head in his first goal of the season.
The senior from Jensen Beach, Fla., is now 24 points shy of becoming just the fourth player in program history with 100 career points.
Lynn's offense kept up its pace in the second half but could not get the ball into the net as back-up keeper Daniel Johnson staved off eight shots while the Christian Brothers defense added a team save.
Alessandro Salvatore logged two stops but his defense kept the pressure off by only allowing two attempts on goal.
The Fighting Knights host their home opener against Florida Memorial on Wednesday, September 8, at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.lynn.edu/athletics and selecting the "Game Day Central" and "Live Stats" links.
