Box Score Columbus, Ga. - Lynn University's softball team defeated Miles College, 11-7, in the first game of the third day of the Hughston Sports Clinic Classic at Cougar Field. The Fighting Knights improve to 3-4 overall on the season while the Golden Bears fall to 0-5.
Carisa Cook led the offense with a pair of hits and three RBI while Megan Mayfield drove in two on two hits. Brittany Gross also pitched in with a pair of hits and pitcher Kasey Murray helped her own cause with three runs scored. Lynn also received help from seven Golden Bears' errors.
Murray received her first career win in the complete game allowing seven earned runs on four hits and striking out four.
The Fighting Knights came back from a two-run deficit to take the lead with five runs in the top of the fourth. Callie Darlin led off with a single and advanced to second on the play on an error by the right fielder. Kasey Murray then laid down a bunt down the third baseline for a base hit as Darlin advanced 60 feet. Darlin touched home on the next play as Carisa Cook reached on a fielder's choice as Murray also advanced to second. Jordan Angel then walked to load the bases for Mayfield who singled in two runs to left and advanced on the throw. After Gross lined out, Katrina Lavadan grounded out but scored Angel from third. With two outs, Brown reached on an error by the second baseman plated Mayfield.
LU got three more in the fifth on an RBI double by Cook down the right field line to score Murray, and a bunt single by Gross to score Angel. That same play the catcher was charged with a throwing error allowing Mayfield to score.
Another three Fighting Knights would score in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Cook and a pair of errors by the Golden Bears.
Up 11-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, Miles scored three in its half of the inning and two more in the seventh as Lynn was victorious, 11-7.
