Box Score 2 Augusta, Ga. – Jordan Angel had another big day as the Lynn University softball team split a doubleheader with Augusta State Thursday afternoon. LU won the first game 10-8 before falling 7-0 in the second. The Fighting Knights go to 6-18 on the season while the Jaguars are now 16-6.
A senior from Galloway, Ohio, Angel collected three hits and a career-high five RBIs with a Grand Slam in the Fighting Knights victory. Angel's team-high second blast of the season was the first Grand Slam by a Fighting Knight since Kathleen Smith did so against Delta State on February 11, 2007. Of Lynn's 13 Grand Slams, three have come against Augusta State.
The Fighting Knights got on top in the third inning as Brittany Gross led off the frame with a single through the left side. After stealing second, Gross reached third on a wild pitch and scored on Mandi Brown's single up the middle. Anne Marie Van Casteren then reach on a free pass and Callie Darlin then helped her own cause by singling to left, scoring Brown. With the score now 2-0 in favor of the Knights, Kasey Murray singled to load the bases to bring up Angel who then crushed the ball over the fence for a Grand Slam.
After allowing a run in the bottom of the third, the Fighting Knights got the run back in the top of the fourth as Carisa Cook drove a single to center field to score Brown from second. Brown had singled earlier in the inning and got to second on another single by Van Casteren.
Unfortunately the 7-1 lead was quickly erased as the Jags tied the game with a run in the fourth and five in the fifth. But, Lynn bounced right back with three runs in the sixth to take an insurmountable 10-7 lead. Brown walked to start the rally and Van Casteren advanced her to third with a sacrifice hit. Cook was then hit by a pitch and Darlin walked to load the bases which led to a pitching change. The new pitcher did not affect the Knights as Murray doubled through the right side to score Brown and Cook. Angel then collected her fifth RBI of the game with a single up the middle scoring Darlin.
Gross and Brown also had great days at the plate with three hits apiece while Murray collected two RBIs on a pair of hits. Brown also scored three times while Darlin reached safely three times on a hit and a pair of walks. With her three hits in the opener, Gross also surpassed Christina Rolla for second place on Lynn's all-time hits list and she added another base knock in the second game.
Darlin got the win in the circle allowing six earned runs on nine hits in the complete game.
The second game wasn't as kind to Lynn as the Blue & White could only muster four base hits with two coming from Cook. Gross and Lavadan had the others as Marianne Johnson took the loss allowing five earned runs in the six inning complete game.
