Box Score 2 Winter Park, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team was swept by No. 17 Rollins in a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader at Lake Island Park. The Fighting Knights dropped the first game, 20-0 before falling in the second, 9-3. LU drops to 6-27 overall and 1-8 in the SSC while the Tars improve to 32-1 and 9-0 in conference play. Rollins has now won 30 straight regular season and conference games.
In game two, the Knights put the "Fighting" in their name falling behind 3-0 after two innings but got one run in the third and another two in the sixth. LU recorded seven base hits in the second game, outhitting Rollins for much of the game.
Leading off the top of the third, Angel crushed the first pitch she saw over the fence in dead-center for her team-leading third home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
After Rollins got four more in the fourth and one in the fifth, Lynn came right back with two in the sixth to cut the lead to 8-3. Katrina Lavadan led off the rally with a double to the gap in right center and Mandi Brown followed with a single to put two runners on. After Brown stole second, Anne Marie Van Casteren then drove in Lavadan with a groundout to short and Callie Darlin plated Brown with a tapper to second base.
Needing six runs to tie in the seventh, Lynn threatened as Megan Mayfield drew a walk and Gross drove a ball into right but the Blue & White could not capitalize.
In the opener, Kasey Murray got the call in the circle and gave up eight earned runs on six hits in 0.2 innings of work. Marianne Johnson relieved her with a 3-0 count with two outs and gave up a one-pitch walk before going 3.1 innings and allowing 11 earned runs.
The middle of the lineup was productive in game one as Brown, Van Casteren and Carisa Cook all recorded base hits while Darlin reached on a free pass.
Danielle O'Rourke was also stellar behind the plate in just her second game back from injury.
LU is back in action Monday, March 28 when they travel to Flagler College for a 2 pm doubleheader. Fans can follow the action of both games by logging onto www.LynnFightingKnights.com.
