Box Score Saint Leo, Fla. – Lynn University's softball team began play in the Saint Leo Invitational on Friday evening, defeating Lincoln Memorial 13-2 in five innings. With the rout the Fighting Knights are back to .500 with a 3-3 record.
The Blue & White chipped in 11 total hits, led by Leanne Wright, Sara Vazquez and Manya Lopez all logging two hits and at least one RBI apiece. Francais Olexa and Madison White joined Wright as players with two RBI.
In the circle, Missy Montgomery threw a complete game for her third victory of the year. Over five innings, the senior allowed two runs off six hits.
Lynn had their most productive inning of the season in the third, scoring 10 runs to set the tone. With bases loaded, Jasmine Campos drew a walk to score Kaci Vassallo. Amanda Casillas connected for her lone hit of the night in the following at bat, allowing Wright to touch home plate. Lincoln Memorial (5-3) took their starter out after Olexa singled to left center in the next at bat, scoring Lopez and Campos.
The offense kept rolling, as Vazquez recorded a RBI off a walk followed by a RBI at bat from Vassallo. Wright and Lopez each brought two more runs in back-to-back at bats as the sophomore doubled through the right side with a single from the junior right after.
Following a one-run effort from Lincoln Memorial, Lynn added three more runs in the fifth to secure the mercy rule victory. White recorded her first career double with a shot to left center, scoring Taylor Steczo and Cherise McEnery.
As a unit, the Fighting Knights were 9-21 with runners on base with eight of those hits having runners in scoring position.
